Dementia care

We recognise that caring for someone with dementia has its challenges and therefore cannot be approached in the same way....

….that we care for others.

We use Person Centred Care planning for people with dementia which puts more focus on the person and less focus on the tasks.

We collect information on the person’s past using our dementia care mapping system. This helps us engage with the person and allow them to engage with us using their long term memories as the basis for most conversations.

We use photo boards in the home so that the Service User can identify their Carers.

We endeavour to supply care using as few carers as possible to avoid confusion. Our Carers are given dementia awareness training by our OCN (Open College Network) accredited dementia awareness trainer.

Elderly frail care

We help you or your loved one to remain independent at home and assist with activities of daily living such as washing, dressing....

....meal preparation, outings or companionship. Our professional and discreet service ensures that your dignity and independence is maintained.

Hospital to home

Following a stay in hospital, we can supply a Carer or Registered Nurse to assist you....

....when you return home. Your requirements will be assessed by our Registered Nurses who are fully conversant with post-operative care.

With your permission, we will liaise (if required) with the hospital discharge team, occupational therapist, doctors and nurses to ensure you have adequate support on returning home.

Live in care

A full time live-in Carer can provide the support needed to continue to live at home giving comfort and peace of mind.

We can supply short or long term live in care. The live in Carer can assist with activities of daily living such as personal care, dressing, meal preparation, outings and keeping your home in the manner in which you are accustomed.

Registered Nurses

In addition to Carers, we also supply Registered Nurses. Our Nurses can assist with wound care, changing of dressings and medication....

....administration. We also supply nurses to other professional bodies and organisations either on a temporary or permanent basis.

Palliative Care

Northwood Nursing can supply much needed support for families or friends caring for a loved one with a terminal illness. We can supply an experienced Carer or....

....Registered Nurse to assist as required. Our Nurse led team has a wealth of experience in palliative care.

With your permission, we work closely with family members and other health care professionals, such as GP’s and MacMillan Nurses to ensure the best care possible.

Our licensed chiropodist can provide assistance on all matters of foot care.

This includes Corns and Calluses, Verrucae (warts), ingrown toe nails, foot, ankle and knee pain, athlete’s foot and fungal nails, and bunions.

Animal Therapy

This is a new service we offer. Animal lovers display increased pleasure and reduced agitation when in the presence....

....of animals. There have been strong positive links associated with dementia and animals. We can arrange a visit from one of our Carers, Angela, and her dog Jeremy. Jeremy is a three year old Jack Russell who has been temperament tested. He is calm and affectionate.

The Service User may, depending on their mobility take Jeremy for short walks or have him on their knee for a cuddle.
